What is Graphic Design.

What is Graphic Design?

Using Graphic Design in Vermont for client.

Graphic Design, simply put is a way of communicating visually. With the use of simple things such as color and shapes. It can join almost any visual media such as print or photography both in analog and digital states. It is a tool to  convey a message optically, when words alone are not enough to stress a point or message.

Visual communication is a powerful tool. A picture can in fact replace a thousand words. When one can not write or speak a message, graphic design comes to the forefront of the discussion. If one has a limited physical space to convey a message in.

Or perhaps needs to communicate a message across languages, again with limitations Graphic Design steps up to the plate. A simple example of this are ‘danger signs’. Say you work in a factory under possibly dangerous or hazardous conditions.

Rather then have to post a multiple of signs informing workers or visitors about the possible risks. A visual communicator, such as a simple sign with a picture on it. Can get the job done in a limited space.

Another simple example we might see here in Vermont is a Moose or Deer crossing sign. Which illustrates the silhouette of the animal in question by the side of the road.Where they have often chosen to cross the road.

Being close to the Canadian border or with international tourist visiting Vermont, this could become cost prohibitive , if the Vermont Department of Transportation had to use signs in English,French, Chinese , Spanish etc. But a simple cartoon-like warning gets the point across,” Warning giant shaggy beast walk here SLOWDOWN!”

An example of Graphic Design in Vermont

While this might be an over simplification of Graphic Design and its uses. It clearly shows us that pictures are an international language. And even though the internet is full of language translators these days. Some people who might be looking for you service or product might not have the time or access. So a cleverly designed website filled with intelligent designs can help convey your message and cross borders.

We see examples of Graphic Design every day and constantly . From walking or driving to work. Shopping at the grocery store and just about anything and everything else. Graphic Designers are hired by clients, be they small businesses, artists of other mediums to giant corporations or fine dining establishments.

We are visual creatures for the most part relying heavily on our eyes for every thing we do. Even for those with ‘sight challenges’ graphic design is still considered very important. The look and the FEEL can be construed by proper design. Seems almost strange that design, particularly graphic design can effect some one who is blind. But at least when it comes to designing on the internet, keeping those who have difficulty or no ability to see ‘visually’ are considered. It effects their internet experience and can also effect how your website ranks in the search engines these days.

So if you have a message you would like communicated or a product or service needing advertising or a web presence needing to be established. Be you in Vermont or New England or any where in the world. Contact us today and let’s get you communicating in an international language.

Video why and what for

If you have followed this site, I recently picked up a new design and marketing client. And went down south about 4 hours a week ago to do a photo shoot and get some video of Coach Paul. Now the evening before the shoot over dinner we were discussing things related to the website. And I happened to bring up video. Its pretty obvious to most folks why
photos are needed to help illustrate what you do. Introduce your self /brand/product etc..

But Coach Paul posed an interesting question. ” What is so important with doing video”
Well there’s a few reasons. And depending what you’re doing here you might or might not know them. I’ll just touch on the high points .

With the ever-increasing availability of high-speed internet connections and as cellular networks start to figure out where their right foot goes. Video is becoming more and more popular. Both as a way to communicate with family, friends or business colleagues.
But also as a way to promote your self, brand, business, web property, services, etc…

With some astounding figure like 52% of all internet traffic being video these days
video is rapidly becoming a very important if not required way to reach your target audience.

These videos do not need super high-end cameras a multi-camera crew and a huge production budget. However there’s a few things you should try to keep in mind as you venture into marketing your company or even sharing your self with family and friends.

I’ll be back to work on  a basic lists of video ”do’s and dont’s ” and some other related info specifically for this later. But now I must return to the video for TrainingwithCoachPaul.com

If you have any questions or need a video for your self/company/brand or product feel free to drop me a line almost 24 hours day . Make sure you get your message to the masses sooner rather than later.

VT SEO Update

Working with lovevermontdrivesubaru.com is a fun and challenging gig. I get to drive some great cars on some very rough roads. Meet some interesting people.Take some photos or videos and of course create some interesting Subaru or Vermont inspired graphics. Like the recent post card design for Dougaru.

One part of the gig that has been a challenge is the Search Engine Optimization side. Since the competition for ranking of cars and car dealerships is a very aggressive marketing. With keywords and phrase being battled over constantly. Theres a heap of car manufactures in the world. There even more dealerships world-wide or nationally then that.

Add to this infamous web-company, specifically running about every dealership website in the USA, and its vast empire of auto dealer websites and the odds against you increase gigantically. So it’s with a great big smile (and a bunch of hard work and some quality content generation) That I’m proud to say lovevermontdrivesubaru.com is landing on the first page of Google for its requested keywords and phrases. It’s also brought Dougaru a seemingly increasing amount of clients who have found him via the web. Now Doug Smith aka ‘Dougaru’ is an almost fanatical Subaru Sales Consultant
At TwinCity Subaru in Berlin Vermont. I met Doug when Development and Design.net ran their IT support. And continued to stay in contact as a friend when the contract expired.

He requested I help him run his site, making him a friend and client . Since about September 2011. After a slow start cleaning up his website and getting it optimized, its been slowly climbing up out of the nether regions of the web. So as results start to land on the first page of Google, in positions 1 thru 7..Congratulations to Dougaru, we got more to go.But its looking good. And Im looking forward to getting myself one of those 2012 Imprezas’

update.

Hey all.
So this week, starting with a some what new client, Sensor Systems Inc. Before the great database blow up over here on the site, you might have noticed some interesting Milspec boxes and cameras and such.
Well thats S2i. Just getting ready to start working on the website for them. After having taking a bunch of digital photos of the products both on the work bench and in the field. Helping them generate some content beyond photos and of course their new website www.gos2i.com . So from Military video surveillance gear to doing a bunch of design and creative work for LoveVermontDriveSubaru.com . The Ides of March are off to a great start.

Great client and now friend Dougaru in his amazing Subaru

Now this picture was re purposed for a recent Subaru Impreza Sales even(the front of the post card is in the last article here.) and this was the final for now output.

You gotta love Vermont to get a picture like this.

I think it might have been about 10 degrees Fairenheight (thats for my friends in NZ) this day. Ice Mud.But the photoshoot was awesomely fun. Thankfully the Pentax Ist-dl held up to the cold climate and I didnt slip and bust my bum or camera.

Portfolio page and such will be up in the next several days .
